As a child, I was always involved in the gospel music ministry in my church. There was no doubt that when I arrived to Cornell that I would seek an organization that would allow me to continue to do this. By joining Baraka, I have gained beautiful and inspiring sisters in Christ. Furthermore, it is always a blessing to be able to use the talent that God has given me to share His love and message of grace to others.

Being in Baraka has allowed me to become part of a sisterhood. We all have a love for music, singing, and sharing the Gospel. We're a ministry more than anything, and I'm so glad I'm able to use my talent for God's work and sharing His love with others.

I joined Baraka because I wanted to try something new (I had never sang in an a cappella group before). But soon it became more than just trying a new thing, as I realized that Baraka is a ministry to which God has called me. Cornell is a campus that is unknowingly thirsty for the love of Jesus and music is a powerful medium to share God's love and power on campus.

Joining Baraka my junior year proved to be one of the best decisions of my college career. I had ministered through music in my local church choir, and found that I was lacking that type of enrichment here at Cornell. In Baraka, I found a sisterhood and circle of friends that lifted me up when I was down and was committed to spreading the word of God through music. What more could I ask for!

Being in Baraka while I’ve been at Cornell has been one of the most rewarding experiences thus far. Back at home, I sing in church all the time and wasn’t sure if I would find a group of women as strong and confident in the word of God as my Baraka sisters. Singing (and music in general) is one of my many passions, and it is how I get through the toughest of times at Cornell. Being able to praise God in the process makes the experience that much more enjoyable. I feel blessed to be able to spread the gospel all around campus with the talent that God has given me.

I had always been a shy sort of person and though I have been singing all my life, I only began singing publicly my freshman year of high school. Being a part of Baraka offers me a platform upon which to constantly challenge myself musically and push my comfort levels but more importantly, it offers a way to draw others nearer to God and draw closer to Him myself. There is nothing as fulfilling as using my God-given gifts to the glory of His name. I thank God every day for the wonderful sisters who He has placed in my life through this group and the impact they continue to have on my life.
